Rise of the Doughnut

March 31, 2017 — TERRANOVA TRENDS — BY ANGELA SHLYAKHOV As far as desserts go, sugar makes us all a wee bit crazy. First came the cupcake craze, then the frozen yogurt craze, then the cronut crazy and now… it’s the old stand-by glamorously revamped with fancy names… it’s the 2016 decadent DOUGHNUT or DONUT craze and the retailers could not be any happier.

Donuts have had a recent glamorous makeover and are now attracting even more customers but they are not just appealing to our men and women in blue anymore and the old stereotypes of the typical donut muncher. Now they are highly sought after by glamorous divas and fashionable men who partake in their delights and bring them as fancy house gifts for dinner parties as desserts and delightfully display them at posh birthdays, weddings and other glam events. One uber fashionable site appropriately titled highsnobiety.com even prominently displays a sushi donut and they look delicious decorated with black sesame, ginger, wasabi, cashew and avocado. These donuts seem healthy too. Other fancy donuts are bacon paired with a maple glaze or icing, M&M and potato chip donuts and many other artisanal donuts.

Terranova to open Miami Beach food hall off Lincoln Road

THE REAL DEAL — March 30, 2017 — BY KATHERINE KALLERGIS On the ground floor of the new Marshalls building just off of Lincoln Road, Terranova Corp. plans to open a food hall by the summer of 2018.

The Lincoln Eatery, at 723 North Lincoln Lane, will join a handful of new food halls planned for the Miami area. Miami Beach-based Terranova is handling the management and leasing of the project, a 9,600-square-foot food hall that will have roughly 16 eateries, juicers and coffee-type tenants, Terranova Executive Vice President Mindy McIlroy told The Real Deal.

Within the food hall, spaces will range from 115 square feet to nearly 500 square feet, and spaces can be combined depending on the tenant. About 4,400 square feet will be leased to tenants and the remaining 5,200 square feet will be for seating and other common space. McIlroy declined to provide asking rents, but said they will be driven by expected sales volume.

Lincoln Road and Aventura Mall Both Announce Upcoming Food Halls

EATER — March 30, 2017 — BY OLEE FOWLER Over the past week details have emerged about two very different Miami malls and their upcoming food halls.

First up is Aventura Mall (19501 Biscayne Blvc), which come later this year will open a new three-level expansion wing on the east side of the property. Inside of it will house a variety of different restaurants and cafes like CVI.CHE 105, Serafina, Pubbelly Sushi, Harry’s Pizzeria, and Blue Bottle. Then on the third floor will be Treats Food Hall, which will feature a “curated collection” of more than a dozen different food options for hungry guests complete with indoor and outdoor seating complete with communal seating and something you don’t see every day: swings.

Down on Miami Beach, Curbed Miami is reporting that The Lincoln Eatery is slated to open in the fall of 2018 at 723 Lincoln Lane. It’ll highlight “fast and affordable dining options” with plenty of seating available, including a 5,000-square-foot rooftop meant for al fresco dining. No word yet on who might be serving up their cuisine in the hall.
